Conemaugh River Lake
An unusual endowment of cultural resources attract visitors to Conemaugh Dam. Adjacent to the Dam site Recreation Area, historical development is currently underway with the construction of the Trail of Transportation History and the Tunnel view Historic Site. The riverside trail follows the towpath that runs along the Main Line Canal that once connected Philadelphia with Pittsburgh (1834 ? 1854). Overlooks along the trail provide views of the historical canal and railroad structures, a canal and tunnel and aqueduct dating from 1830, two railroad tunnels and three stone arch railroad bridges. The ?Conemaugh Dam Trail? is a 3.3 mile recreational non-motorized hiking and biking trail that follows portions of an abandoned Pennsylvania Railroad line that operated along the corridor in the early 1900?s and portions of the historic Pennsylvania Main Line Canal that operated in the 1800?s and is now registered on the National Register of Historic places.
